500 gms fish (see notes for mackerel or pomfret)
For grinding:
1" ginger
Steps:
handful of coriander leaves
3-4 green chillies
1/2 lime - juice or 2 tsp vinegar
salt to taste
1/2 onion
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
For frying:
1/2 onion chopped ( for frying)
coconut oil (for frying)
- Wash and clean the fish and keep it aside.
- Grind all the ingredients to a fine paste without adding water.
- Marinate the fish with the ground masala for at least 1 hour. Save the remaining masala for later.
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Add the fish and fry on both sides.
- In a separate pan, heat oil and fry the chopped onions till translucent.
- Add the remaining masala and cook till the oil separates.
- Spread this evenly on the fried / baked fish.

You can wrap fish such as pomfret and king fish in a banana leaf. For this, you need to first fry some masala, apply it on the fish and then wrap it before frying/baking it in an oven.
