Ingredients:
1/2 kg fish or prawns
1 onion (sliced)
1 large potato (cut in cubes - for prawns only)
To powder:
1 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
3/4 tsp coriander seeds
1/2 tsp pepper corns
8-10 byadgi red chillies

To grind along with powdered ingredients:
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 large onion (sliced)
3 cloves garlic
1 marble size ball tamarind or 1 tsp tamarind paste
2 - 3 tbsp desiccated coconut

Steps:
- Powder all dry ingredients and grind with rest of the ingredients into fine paste.
- In a vessel, heat oil and fry one sliced onion till light brown.
- Add masala and fry till the oil separates.
- Add water according to your preferred consistency.
- Add salt and bring to a boil. For a prawn curry, add the potatoes at this stage and boil until the potatoes are almost cooked.
- Add fish or prawns. Cook on simmer for 5 minutes and cover with the lid.
