Mirsaang (chilli and tamarind) Saar - Maizy Aunty

The Mangy Kitchen Mirsaang Saar

















Ingredients:
10 round red chillies (cut 1 into 3 pieces)
1 medium onion (sliced)
7-8 garlic cloves (mashed, with skin)
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 ball tamarind (soaked in a bowl and squeezed) or 1 tbsp tamarind paste
3-4 tbsp of sugar (or a piece of jaggery)
1/2 - 1 tbsp salt
3 tbsp coconut oil

Steps:
  1. Heat oil. 
  2. Add mustard seeds. 
  3. When they crackle, add garlic. Let the garlic brown.
  4. Then add the red chillies and fry till they turn dark brown. Make sure not to burn it.
  5. Add the onions, fry till golden brown.
  6. Then add 3 cups of hot water along with the tamarind, salt and sugar and let it boil for 5-10 minutes.
  7. Adjust sugar, salt or tamarind, if needed. The saar must be sweet, spicy and sour, all at once.
