Sajjige (upma) - Oreen

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup rava
1 big onion (sliced/chopped)
1/2" ginger (chopped)
3 tbsp urad dal
1 sprig curry leaves
1 tsp mustard seeds
ghee
1 tsp salt
2 red chillies or 2 green chillies (optional)
grated coconut (optional)
grated ginger (optional)

Steps:

  1. Dry roast the rava and keep it aside.
  2. In a vessel, heat ghee. Add mustard seeds. When they crackle, add urad dal and curry leaves.
  3. Once urad dal becomes golden, add onions, chopped ginger and fry till onions become translucent.
  4. Add the roasted rava with 3 cups of hot water and salt. Stir well and cover the lid and cook for 2 - 3 minutes on medium flame.
  5. Garnish with grated ginger or coconut (optional).
  6. Serve with sugar sprinkled on top or on the side. 
  7. ENJOY!
Notes:
Variation: Add 2-3tsp sugar when cooking.
