Red Chutney (without coconut) - Lidwin aunty

Ingredients:
1 medium size onion 
2 tbsp channa dal
4-5 cloves garlic
small piece of tamarind 
1 tsp red chilli powder/whole (adjust as per taste)

For seasoning:
oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp urad dal
1 whole long red chilli
few curry leaves

Steps:
  1. Dry roast the onion, channa dal, garlic and chilli (if you are using it whole). 
  2. Transfer to a blender. Add tamarind, salt and a little water to blend a smooth paste.
  3. Pour the ground masala into a bowl.
  4. Separately, heat oil in a tadka pan.
  5. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, urad dal, whole red chilli and fry. 
  6. Pour it over the ground chutney.
  7. Serve with idlis or dosas.
