Toor Dal Saar - Oreen

Ingredients:
1 cup toor dal
3 cups hot water
1/2 tomato (chopped)
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 green chillies (slit)
1" ginger (chopped)

For tempering:
1 tsp ghee
1/2 medium onion (chopped)
1/2 tomato (chopped)
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp jeera seeds
1 tsp jeera powder
1 tsp hing/asafoetida
1 tsp pepper (optional)
spinach leaves (optional)

Steps:
  1. In a vessel, add dal with 3 cups hot water, tomato, onion powder, garlic powder, turmeric and salt. Cook for about  12 minutes on medium heat then reduce to low heat.
  2. In another pot, heat ghee.
  3. Add mustard seeds, jeera seeds, onion, tomato, chili powder, jeera powder, hing and pepper. Fry till the onions and tomatoes are cooked and mushy. 
  4. Then add to the simmering dal. 
  5. Add spinach leaves, turn off the flame and keep covered (optional)
  6. ENJOY!
