Ingredients:
1 cup toor dal
3 cups hot water
1/2 tomato (chopped)
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 green chillies (slit)
1" ginger (chopped)
For tempering:
1 tsp ghee
1/2 medium onion (chopped)
1/2 tomato (chopped)
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp jeera seeds
1 tsp jeera powder
1 tsp hing/asafoetida
1 tsp pepper (optional)
spinach leaves (optional)
Steps:
- In a vessel, add dal with 3 cups hot water, tomato, onion powder, garlic powder, turmeric and salt. Cook for about 12 minutes on medium heat then reduce to low heat.
- In another pot, heat ghee.
- Add mustard seeds, jeera seeds, onion, tomato, chili powder, jeera powder, hing and pepper. Fry till the onions and tomatoes are cooked and mushy.
- Then add to the simmering dal.
- Add spinach leaves, turn off the flame and keep covered (optional)
