Chaklis - Karen Pereira

Ingredients:

3 cups flour
1 cup urad dal (dry roast and grind powder)
ajwain/carom seeds to taste *(optional)
sesame seeds to taste *(optional)
cumin seeds to taste *(optional)

Stes:

  1. Dry roast the urad dal and grind to a fine powder.

  2. Steam the flour in a cloth for 1/2 hour after whistle.
  3. Remove the flour and mix with urad dal and knead the dough.
  4. Add caraway/carom (ajwain), sesame or cumin seeds.
  5. Add salt to taste.
  6. Put in form 
  7. Heat oil for deep frying. 
  8. Add the chaklis one at a time and fry on medium flame till crispy on both sides.
  9. Transfer to a plate and drain excess oil a paper towel.
