Kerala-style Chicken Chilli - Jean

Ingredients:

2 medium onions (sliced)
1 small tomato (finely chopped)
2 green chilis (slits)
4 cloves garlic (chopped)
2 sprigs curry leaves
1" ginger (chopped)
1/2 tsp pepper powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp chili powder
2-3 tbsp vinegar
oil

To marinate the chicken:

1/2 kg chicken (breast, thighs, legs)
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp vinegar
1/4 tsp turmeric
1 tsp chili powder

Steps:

  1. Wash the chicken, make slits and marinate with salt, vinegar, turmeric and chili powder for about 15 - 20 minutes.
  2. Add 1/2 cup water and cook the chicken till it is tender and the water evaporates.
  3. Once it cools, shred the meat and keep aside.

  4. In a vessel, heat oil. 
  5. Add the onions, tomato, green chili, curry leaves, and fry till onions are golden brown.
  6. Reduce the flame, add the powders, 1/4 cup water and mix well.
  7. Add the shredded chicken, give it a good mix, and turn off the gas.
