Ingredients:
1/2 kg beef (cut into 2 to 3 pieces)
For the marinade
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
3/4 tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp cumin powder
1/2 tsp garam masala powder
11/2 tsp pepper powder
2 tsp ginger paste
2 tsp garlic paste
1 tbsp vinegar
1 tsp salt
For the roast
3 kashmiri chillies
1" cinnamon bark
6 cloves
10 pepper corns
2 medium potatoes or as required
3 medium onions or as required
oil as required
Steps:
- Peel and slice the potatoes into medium thin slices, fry and keep aside (sprinkle a little salt on the potato slices before frying)
- Wash and drain the meat and keep aside.
- In a large bowl, add turmeric powder, chilli powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, pepper powder, ginger paste, garlic paste, vinegar and salt and make a paste.
- Prick the meat pieces with a fork and apply the marinade and refrigerate overnight.
- Peel and slice the onions into roundels and keep aside.
- In a pressure cooker, heat 1 to 2 tbsp oil.
- Add cinnamon, cloves, pepper corns and chillies (break chillies into pieces)
- When pepper corns start popping, add the meat and cook, stirring on medium high heat till the colour changes
- Add 1 1/2 cup of water and pressure cook till the meat is cooked (time taken to cook depends on the meat). Remove and cool.
- Slice the beef and return to the gravy and cook till the gravy thickens up and is almost dry.
- Separately, heat oil in a pan. Add onion roundels and fry till they turn light brown
- Add meat and mix well
- Add salt if needed and continue frying for a while, stirring occasionally
- Add the fried potato slices, mix and switch off the flame.
- ENJOY!
Notes:
- You can fry tomato roundels and mix along with the fried onion, meat and potatoes (optional)
