Chicken Jeere Meeri Curry - Sophiebai

Ingredients:
1 1/2 kg chicken (cut in medium size pieces)
2 big onions (chopped)
3 tomatoes (chopped)
3 potatoes (peeled and cut in quarter)
salt to taste
ghee/oil

To grind:
3-4 dry red byadgi chilies (adjust according to taste)
1 whole pod garlic
1 tbsp jeera
1 tbsp peppercorns
1/4 tbsp coriander seeds
1/4 tsp saunf *(optional- stronger flavour)
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
marble size tamarind
1 tsp vinegar

Steps:

  1. Grind the red chilies, garlic, jeera, peppercorns, coriander seeds, saunf, mustard seeds, turmeric, tamarind and vinegar to a smooth paste with a little water and keep aside.

  2. In a vessel, heat oil. Add the onions and fry till brown.
  3. Add the tomatoes and fry till cooked.
  4. Add the ground masala and fry for about 10 minutes on low flame till you get an aroma.
  5. Add salt, chicken pieces, potatoes and mix well. Add water according to desired consistency and bring to a boil.
