Ingredients:
To pressure cook:
1 cup toor dal (pigeon pea)
2 cups water
1-2 green chilies
1/2" ginger
1 onion (chopped)
3-4 cloves garlic
For seasoning:
1 tbsp oilmustard seeds
1/8 tsp asafoetida
1 dry red chilli
1/2 tsp cumin/jeera seeds
2 sprigs curry leaves (optional)
1/8 tsp turmeric powder
salt to taste
1/2 lemon - juice
coriander leaves
Steps:
- In a pressure cooker, add toor dal, green chilies, ginger, garlic, onion, salt and 2 cups water and pressure cook till 3 whistles.
- In a vessel, heat oil.
- Add mustard seeds, asafoetida, red chilli, cumin seeds and curry leaves and saute.
- Add cooked dal, turmeric powder, salt and bring to a boil. Add additional water, according to desired consistency.
- Add juice of half a lemon and mix.
- Garnish with coriander leaves.
