Ingredients
1/2 kg vegetables (toor dal, gosale/ridge gourd, boble/bottle gourd, alsande/string beans, benda/okra, drumsticks)salt to taste
To grind:
1/2 coconut - grated
1/2 coconut - grated
4 dry round chillies (motwi mirsaang)
2 dry long red chillies
1 tbsp coriander seeds
1 tbsp coriander seeds
1/2 tsp jeera
1 tbsp mustard seeds
3 peppercorns
1 onion
2 cloves garlic
marble size tamarind
For seasoning: *Optional
5-6 cloves garlic with skin (mashed)
1 sprig curry leaves
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
oil
Steps:
- Grind the ingredients together with water to a fine paste.
- In a vessel, add dal and water and cook.
- When the dal is cooked, add the vegetables of your choice with salt.
- Add the ground masala and the masala water and bring to a boil.
- Adjust salt and vinegar if needed.
- In a tadka pan, heat oil.
- Add the garlic and fry.
- Add the curry leaves and fry.
- Add the mustard seeds. When they splutter, turn off the gas.
- Add the tadka to the curry.
