One Pot Masoor Dal - Oreen

Ingredients:
1 cup masoor dal
3 cups water
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper powder
1 tsp jeera/cumin powder

For the seasoning:
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp paprika powder
1 tsp hing/asafoetida
1 tomato (chopped)
2 tbsp ghee

Steps:
  1. In a vessel, heat ghee. 
  2. Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, paprika powder, hing and tomato. 
  3. Once the mustard splutters, add the masoor dal, water, turmeric, salt, pepper powder and jeera powder and boil till the dal is cooked. 
  4. ENJOY!
Notes:
  • An alternative is to boil the masoor dal with pepper powder, cumin powder and turmeric. Later, add the seasoning to the boiled dal.
