Ingredients:
To pressure cook with the beef:
1/2 kg beef (cut into small pieces)
10 cloves garlic (finely chopped)
1" ginger (finely chopped)
1medium onion (sliced)
1 medium tomato (cubed or chopped)
1 sprig curry leaves
2 slit green chillies *(optional)
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp Kashmiri chilli powder
1 tbsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp garam masala powder
1/2 tsp pepper powder
1 star anise
1 to 2 tsp vinegar
1 tbsp oil (preferably coconut oil)
salt to taste

For the curry:
3 tbsp coconut oil
1/2 cup shallots (finely chopped)
1 sprig curry leaves
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 to 1 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp fennel seeds powder
1/4 tsp garam masala powder
3 tbsp coconut oil
1/2 cup shallots (finely chopped)
1 sprig curry leaves
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 to 1 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp fennel seeds powder
1/4 tsp garam masala powder
Steps:
To pressure cook the beef:
- Wash and drain the meat, combine with the other ingredients and keep it aside for half an hour.
- Add 1/2 to 1 cup of water, mix well and pressure cook for 7 to 8 whistles over medium flame or cook until soft and done.
- Heat oil in a kadai.
- Add the chopped onions and curry leaves. Saute till brown.
- Add turmeric, red chili powder, fennel seed powder and garam masala powder. Fry well.
- Add the cooked beef with the broth. If desired, add hot water for additional curry.
- Combine well and bring to a boil and let it simmer till the gravy thickens. Adjust salt and vinegar if desired.
